There is a saying that Tulshimala rice is unparalleled compared to other local rice produced in Bangladesh. The farmers of Sherpur district under Mymensingh division treat this as a treasure. The size of the rice is comparatively small and smooth. The aroma is great.
The local people call it “Jamai aduri chal“. The closest meaning is “Love to Son-in-law “. As per tradition, when the sons-in-law visit the groom’s parents’ home after marriage, special menus like polao, khichuri, firni, and payesh (a rice-basedare, dessert) prepared with this Tulshimala rice. By the aroma of the rice the neighbors get the notification that special someone has come in the neighborhood as guest.
