Local Rice The Unknown Treasure
Syeda Luthfun Nahar : Have you ever heard the name of local rice “Tulshimala Rice” which is the brand product of Sherpur District’.
I don’t think so. We know about coffee brands, international brand of clothes, local and international brands of toiletries, baby food brands. Unfortunately, we do not know about the daily commodity which are homegrown and in quality they can bit any international products.
If we diagnose the reason behind this weird issue, we can see lots of reasons are there to pull off the legs to being popular. First of all, the people who are related to this are not taking enough action to promote their products. What they can do, they can showcase their products in their local community. Spread the word of mouth to their friends and family. Share authentic information about their products on social media.
Local governance, like the high Government officials and local govt. officer can play a vital role in promoting local products. For example, they may arrange local fairs in the district and introduce the local rice and different dishes cooked with that rice. Then share the information in local newspapers, if possible in daily newspapers.
Lots of Bangladeshi are now working in UN the Peace Mission. They can use our local rice and act as a goodwill ambassador. Lots of our people are working in different parts of the world. Some are staying abroad for higher study. They can promote our local rice in those communities.
In TV channels, we can broadcast documentary about local crops, the heritage, the life style of those who are related to these. Can take the interview of successful farmers, local traders and can make clips to share their journey. In social media platforms, like-Facebook, Instagram, YouTube all of us can share information, review, video, picture to make our local product popular. Social influencers and celebrities can talk and share their experiences regarding local crops, rice.
Like instant noodles, we may have packet processed rice with proceeded vegetables, meats or fish to eat them in our own convenience. So, the students of university, daily office going people, the working people who works in wheel they will eat these food as a better option.
We have lots of festivals to celebrates; like two Eid for Muslims, a number of Pujas for Hindus, Buddha Purnima for Buddha community, X-mas and Easter Sunday for Christian community. In such festivals we cooks and serve our deshi (nation/local) food made by our local rice.
As a nation, we are very hospitable. We love to treat our near and dear ones with food. We celebrates our joy with food. We share our grief with near and dear by dinning with them. In such special moment, we can use the local crops based food to serve in our table. The five star hotels may showcase different kinds of food made by local rice. They may introduce local rice festivals to their guests.
The renowned chefs can share different recipes by using our local rice.They can write about the recipes. They can published cook book about local rice. In special edition of newspaper and magazines , they can share their signature dish using our local rice.
We may also do our parts by using our local rice in our Daily life. We may preach it by practicing it.
